What is a Nuans Report?

A NUANS Report is a mandatory name search that compares your proposed business name against existing corporations and trademarks across Canada. It is used for federal and certain provincial incorporations to assess whether a name may be approved.

NUANS Report vs Name Pre-Approval

A NUANS Report does not guarantee name approval. It only provides a comparison of similar names for government review. Name pre-approval, when granted by the applicable registry, confirms that a business name may be used if filed before the expiry date.

When a NUANS Report Is Required?

A NUANS Report is required for federal incorporation and select provinces such as Ontario and Alberta. Other provinces may provide name approval directly without a NUANS Report. Requirements vary by jurisdiction and are subject to government review.
